Nurturing: A Creative Practice
self care through art
Live via Zoom :: Six Week Container
Wednesdays :: Beginning November 13
November 13, 20, 27 and December 4, 11, + 18
To Nurture: to care for, to encourage, to cherish, to nourish, to support one’s true nature. As we move into the fall and winter seasons, it occurs to me that its the perfect time to devote my creative practice to self care. As a mother of a four year old, finding time for myself can be a fleeting experience. And when I do have that time, I don’t always make the most nourishing choices for myself.
I want to create this container for all participants to devote more time to their self care through creative expression. Our time together will support us to turn to our creativity in moments of spaciousness throughout our six weeks together.
What is it like to create with the intent to nourish, to encourage, to care for? How can we bring these elements into our creative practices? Can we weave tenderness and care into little moments of our creative expression? Can our creative sessions nourish a well of self care that permeates other aspects of our lives?
Our self care practice will originate from our art process and prompts. You are welcome to choose other self care activities that you want to commit to during the six weeks. Naturally, they will begin to sprout and come alive during the six weeks, as we turn towards an inner focus of nurturing. I imagine that simple daily activities such as cooking, getting dressed, bathing and movement may receive an infusion of attention as our art practice provides the foundation for our focus of care.
We will be exploring through the medium of watercolors, though any other art materials are welcome too (I recently fell back in love with colored pencils!) I recommend a journal to have a contained space to focus and pour your self care art practices into, though single sheets of paper are fine if you prefer that.
This class will take us from the middle of November all the way to just before the Winter Solstice. The hope is that our devotion to nurturing and self care through our creative practices will set us up for continued nurturing through the winter season!
All you need are some watercolors/other art supplies, a journal, a brush, and a pen or pencil. No previous art experience is required or necessary. I will be weaving some Somatic practices throughout our classes, and we will be learning to listen to our bodies and honor what they need.
